Between 1993 and 1996, Demetrius Yuen and Charles de Trenck worked together as colleagues at a boutique investment bank named Kerry Securities owned by the Kuok family of Malaysia, one of the wealthiest overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, located in Citibank Tower, Hong Kong. After 1996, Demetrius continued his functional pursuit in corporate finance with (i) Standard Chartered, the then leading advisor and arranger in mergers and acquisitions & IPOs in Asia, (ii) Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), the leading global private container port operator, developer and investor and controlled by the richest man in Asia and (iii) PYI, the leading bulk cargo river port operator, developer and investor along the Yangtze River region of China.
During that time (1996-2008), Charles stayed with his passion for research into transport companies and overall macro-trade at various investment banks including UBS, CSFB and Citi/Salomon Smith Barney. Both spent an aggregate of close to 30 years in working and/or following port and shipping companies.
In 2009, both decided with their combined depth of skills, experience, relationship and insight in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, capital expenditures and research for port and shipping companies, there is not only much synergy in what they do professionally but there is much value added services that Demetrius and Charles could provide to entities interested in the port and shipping industries.
