Demetrius Yuen holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, cum laude from Boston University.

 

Demetrius, initially a shipping analyst at Kerry Securities but later switched to its corporate finance department focusing on mergers & acquisitions, private equity fund and fund raising, and started evaluating a project to build and fund the development of a new satellite town with many infrastructure projects including a container and bulk cargo port in 1993. He then worked at Standard Chartered Asia from 1996 to 2000, where he focused his work on mergers & acquisitions such as bank acquisitions and restructurings such as the then biggest workouts in China involving provincial and municipal governments, in addition to initial public offerings.

 

During his tenure at Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), the leading global port company, from 2000 to 2007, he was exposed to various and numerous corporate finance projects for container ports and related assets globally; as a result, he deepened his experience and knowledge in the investment, development, and operation of container ports, cruise terminals, tug boats, marinas and inland depots. He was also a graduate of HPH’s Global Leadership Development Program conducted by Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

 

Demetrius rounded off his experience and knowledge of Chinese ports with exposure to bulk cargo and container operations as well as property development associated with ports, during his tenure at PYI, a major river port company in China, as its Group Corporate Finance Director from 2007 to 2008.

 

Demetrius has worked in Hong Kong and many other places such as Los Angeles, London, Yangon, Manila, Veracruz, Buenos Aires, Pattaya, Karachi, Ensenada, Seoul, Alexandria and China. He is also a director of SOW (Asia) Foundation, a charitable foundation applying the principles of venture philanthropy.
